She has served as media specialist for all grade levels - elementary, middle, and high school. Among the many responsibilities held by the media specialist, Mrs. Bowles's passion lies in promoting and growing the love for reading within her students, and she appreciates the complexities that such a task entails at every grade level. In addition, Mrs. Bowles also loves fostering the growth of creativity and inquiry through technology and hands-on/STEAM activities. Mrs. Bowles is a certified PK - 12 Media Specialist, English teacher (6 - 12), and is gifted endorsed.
“There are two sides to reading. On one side are the skills which include phonemic awareness, phonics, word recognition, vocabulary, and simple comprehension. On the other side is the will to read. A good reader has both skill and will.”
The classroom teacher has primary responsibility for teaching the skill of reading.
The media specialist can have a lot to do with the WILL to read.
And having both skill AND will are indicators of how successful that student will be.
What happens in the Media Center REALLY matters!
