Learning Target:

Today I will learn about the artist Faith Ringgold and her contribution to Black History by creating an art work related to her book TARBEACH

Success Criteria: (I know I’ll have it when…) I can recall several facts about the artist and explain the relationship to my artwork

Introduction/Connection:  Ask students-Who is Faith Ringgold?

*Play youtube of Ringgold reading her book TARBEACH

* Ask what is a TARBEACH?

* What medium did Ringgold use?

DIRECT INSTRUCTION: (steps teacher will do to demo/guide them in how they will create picture using the elmo,smartboard and showing a youtube

*any resources from home and media center

Students learning by doing/demonstrating learning expectations.  Describe the instructional process that will be used to engage the students in the work period.

GUIDED PRACTICE: 

• Each student will create a border around a 12x18 white paper using a sharpie and ruler

• They will write if I could fly anywhere I would fly to…

• They will draw themselves flying like Ringgold in the book  Tarbeach

• Markers and crayons can be used to color the picture

INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION: Students help others at their table with rulers
