Student & School Spotlights
The October 13 meeting celebrated outstanding achievements in nutrition and student organization excellence across the district.

Jane Macon Middle School Cafeteria — Award of Excellence

The Jane Macon Middle School nutrition staff received the annual Award of Excellence, recognizing local school nutrition professionals for high-quality school meals, exceptional customer service, and program integrity.

To achieve this award, schools must meet rigorous state criteria, including incorporating Georgia Grown items, achieving a health score of 90 or above, maintaining student participation at or above state averages, implementing creative breakfast and lunch marketing plans, and receiving administrator or community recommendation letters.

The Jane Macon nutrition team met and exceeded these requirements by:

  • Partnering with students on a school herb garden and utilizing hydroponic lettuce in meal services.

  • Hosting special event meals for Black History Month, Grandparents Day, Thanksgiving, Veterans Day, National School Lunch Week, School Breakfast Week, and Harvest of the Month.

  • Earning nominations for "Tray of the Week" twice.

  • Winning local culinary competitions and developing new recipes using Georgia Grown peanuts.

  • Continuously providing exceptional breakfast and lunch options for students.

Glynn Academy DECA

Glynn Academy’s DECA chapter was recognized for its tremendous growth and leadership impact:

  • Chapter Size & Service: Boasts 350+ members, making it the 5th largest DECA chapter in Georgia, and logged over 3,000 community service hours during the 2025–2026 school year through partnerships with Keep Golden Isles Beautiful and Chick-fil-A.

  • School Operations: Processed over 10,000 sales transactions through their school store last school year.

  • Competitive Success: Multiple competitors advanced to the global stage at the DECA International Career Development Conference (ICDC) in Atlanta, following top-10 and top-20 state finishes in finance, hospitality, marketing, and legal events.
