SRO Jillian "Pinky" Shepard
Welcome! We are so happy to have you here at Oglethorpe Point Elementary School! I am the SRO (School Resource Officer) here and have been for the past 7 years. Here are the answers to some of the questions I get asked most often.
Are you a real police officer?
YES! I am a certified police officer through the state of Georgia.
Are you the "dancing police officer"?
Yes! I have been known to dance while directing traffic on occasion....or on every morning and afternoon traffic detail, rain or shine!
Why is your nickname "Pinky"?
My favorite color is PINK! I have lots of pink accessories, and my handcuffs are pink! My Sgt. back at BPD gave me the nickname when I started in law enforcement and it's been with me ever since.
Do you carry a weapon?
Like most police officers, yes.
Did you work anywhere before working at Oglethorpe?
YES! I worked for the City of Brunswick Police Department for 9 years. They sent me to the police academy in 2008 and that is where I stayed until I had my first son back in 2016.
Do you love your job?
ABSOLUTELY. I can honestly say, it is the best job I've ever had. I know that you trust me to ensure the safety of your children while they're away from you. So when they come here to OPES, they all become my family. Every single day is an adventure, and I feel so blessed that I get to be around your kids everyday.
Did you go to college?
Yes! I went to the best college in the land, GEORGIA SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY! I graduated in 2008 with my Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice.
What do you actually do?
My goal is the preservation of a positive educational environment by working to keep it safe and orderly. SROs thrive on teamwork, and we work closely with the administration to make sure each day is a safe and fun learning environment for every student.
